Why the PMP® Certification?

In today's flexible organization, the boundaries between functions are becoming less
defined. You are most probably becoming more involved in working on cross-functional
projects or leading global teams, even though your title is not “project manager” as
such.

To be effective in this capacity you need to acquire skills and competences which
extend beyond your formal role.
Every day we hear of a project that has escalated in cost or has been repeatedly
delayed. Worse still (and often unreported), many completed projects leave their users
dissatisfied. Could we do better? There is no simple answer, but this project
management course should enable you to anticipate and cope with some of the
problems that you may meet.
More and more organisations are turning to the Project Management Institute's (PMI®)
Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK™ Guide, Fifth Edition)
and Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification as the source and evidence
of competency.

Objectives

This course will:

·         Equip you with the required knowledge and techniques for managing projects,
including those with a significant technological element;
·         Give you experience of using project management techniques that can be
applied to real life projects.
You will therefore not only obtain knowledge and skills, but also an internationally
recognised qualification as a certified project manager.

Who for?

The course is primarily aimed at:

·         Project managers in any field;
·         Team leaders and individuals who work in a project team;
·         Technical individuals, project personnel and functional managers who are taking
on more managerial responsibility.

Eligibility

To be eligible to take the PMP® certification examination, applicants must complete an
examination application requiring 35 Contact hours of Project Management education.
Furthermore, applicants must meet some other professional requirements:

·         With a Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must have a minimum three years’
professional project management experience, during which 4,500 hours are
spent leading and directing project tasks. The deadline is eight years from the
time of application.
·         Without a Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must have a minimum five years’
professional project management experience, during which at least 7,500 hours
are spent leading and directing project tasks. The deadline is eight years from
the time of application.

Examination

The four-hour examination composed of 200 multiple-choice questions, measures
candidates’ ability to apply knowledge, skills and techniques used in project
management. The examination is developed by groups of individuals from around the
globe who hold the PMP credential and is routinely reviewed and revised to ensure the
best and consistently objective assessment.
The testing system is flexible as examinations can be taken online or paper based.
